As part of the current exhibition Future Perfect – Contemporary Art from Germany, held on the first level of the Museum of Contemporary Art and in the Gallery-Legacy of Milica Zorić and Rodoljub Čolaković, the Belgrade audience has the opportunity to explore the work of artist Dani Gal. His practice focuses on examining the media he works with and investigating the possibilities of manipulating historical documents through their reactivation or reinterpretation. This thematic and problem-focused approach involves reflecting on the relationship between events and their constructions through sound and image.

At the Future Perfect exhibition, Gal’s work titled Architecture on the Future of Conversation is featured – an interactive sound installation where the audience’s movements determine the tempo and direction of the record i.e. archival recordings of conversations with famous architects who defined spatial concepts in the twentieth century. Thus, visitors create a sound composition through their presence and interactions. In addition to this work, Gal will present other similar works (sculptures, installations, films) focusing on sound as a theme, document, and material, highlighting its critical potential and its role in the functioning of ideologies and the production of a culture of memory. Following the talk, Gal will present the sound performance Semi-Automatic: The Swamp in June, where he incorporates various audio sources into dialogue, such as live radio broadcasts, electronics, field recordings, footage of acoustic instruments outfitted with specially designed motors, and speech. The interrelations and overlaps of these sources create a unique musical composition.

Dani Gal (Jerusalem, 1975) studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste – Städelschule in Frankfurt, and Cooper Union in New York.
