The exhibition End of language – Wittgenstein re-imagined presents the works of Serbian and Austrian artists/participants of the competition, which was organized in an online format during the 2022 under the auspices of the Austrian Cultural Forum and website for art and science Lichtfelder.org.

The competition included proposals and interdisciplinary research inspired by the ideas of the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, who worked in the field of logic, mathematical philosophy, philosophy of mind and language. The received proposals and the remarkable ways in which Wittgenstein’s thought about language in the contemporary context is reflected in artistic practices undoubtedly displayed an up-to-date interest of his philosophical theses, inviting us to confront what we know or believe we understand. The exhibition will present works in a wide range of creative articulations from minimalist language interventions, video installations, electro-acoustic experiments, sculpture, and collage to digital applications, visual poetry, and performative scenarios. In an age when AI generates its own system of cognition through codes, building technological alternatives even to the creative processes of human beings, the works in the exhibition provide a glimpse into the interstices where artistic exploration still holds primacy. One of the goals of the project is to further connect and strengthen the cooperation between the Serbian and Austrian art scenes, notably through the production of new art work specifically for this exhibition, getting to know different protagonists (institutions, individuals) active through practice, research and theoretical work in the field of contemporary art.
